2009 Cadillac Hybrid Escalade due in 2008Got an extra $70,000 burning a hole in your pocket?  If you can hold on until the summer of ‘08, we may have found your next vehicle.  GM just unveiled it’s biggest hybrid suv yet, the 2009 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid, at the South Florida International Auto Show.  And, while actual pricing wasn’t announced, we’re guessing $65K-$75K based on the current price range of their non-hybrid version (about the same cost as buying 3 new Toyota Prius).  Like the upcoming Hybrid Tahoe and Hybrid Yukon, the green Escalade will use the GM 2-mode hybrid system, and it could get around 18 mpg in city driving assuming it reaches it’s anticipated 50% improvement over the gas-only model.

One interesting feature that we haven’t seen in other hybrid suv models is the Escalade’s ability to tow a whopping 5500-6000 lbs, depending on drive train.  Hard to believe this 3 ton, giant suv will actually be able to drive a few blocks without even engaging it’s gas engine; doing so on nothing but electricity.  When it’s time to get the horses out, GM’s hybrid Escalade will fire up it’s 332 HP, 6.0L V8.  Who’s your hybrid caddy now?

Can’t wait until 2008 to learn more about this bad boy?  There’s a lot more information at Autobloggreen, and here’s some additional coverage:
