2008 Lexus RX 400hThe new 2008 Lexus RX 400h is arguably the most luxurious SUV on the market, and is undoubtably the top luxury hybrid vehicle to date. Available in a front-wheel drive version (Base MSRP - $41,180) as well as an all-wheel drive (Base MSRP - $42,580), this hybrid suv is built for performance.  With its 3.3 liter, dohc 24v V6 engine - the 400h churns out 268 horsepower.

With all this luxury and power, it’s easy to forget that this sport utility vehicle is a hybrid.  And while it may not get 40 or 50 miles per gallon, like its cousin the Prius…it does command a respectible 28/25 mpg in city/hwy driving.  In addition, it offers 84 cubic feet of cargo space, has plenty of room to seat 5 passengers comfortably, can tow up to 3500 lbs….and, it’s a lot better for the environment than nearly any other suv.

While there aren’t a great number of changes from the 2007 400h, the ‘08 model does get an updated finish on the grill, chrome door handles, a color-keyed rear spoiler, and a cut-off switch that allows the driver to shut off the stability and traction control functionality.  Lexus even added seven new exterior colors for the 2008 model year.  Like last year, the RX 400h should continue to receive the Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (SULEV) and zero-evaporative emissions vehicle certifications in California.

Fully loaded, you might pay close to $50,000 to own a 2008 Lexus RX 400h.  As to when you’ll be available to pick one up remains to be seen, but rumors are leaning toward October of ‘07.
