Green Car Journal has named their Green Car of the Year for 2008, and the winner is the 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid. The announcement was made at the Los Angeles Auto Show on 11/15/07 and came as quite a surprise to many, mostly because they didn’t expect a large SUV to beat out competitors such as the hybrid Chevy Malibu, and the hybrid Nissan Altima.

Back in late 2007, the hybrid world was a-buzz with GM’s news about producing a hybrid version of its popular luxury gas-guzzler, the Escalade. Well, the long wait is nearly over – the 2009 hybrid Escalade will be hitting dealer lots this fall.
Originally unveiled at the South Florida International Autoshow and later paraded around celebrity fetes and premiers, the 2009 Cadillac Escalade hybrid will get nearly double the miles per gallon that its standard fuel counter-part can get; we are talking 20-21 miles per gallon. While it’s true that when compared to smaller hybrid vehicles, these numbers aren’t too impressive, they still represent a significant improvement in fuel economy for such a large luxury vehicle.
2008 Toyota Hybrid Highlander Sweepstakes
The Toyota dealers in the Central Atlantic region are giving you until November 30, 2007 to register to win a 2008 Highlander Hybrid SUV. According to the official rules and regulations (.pdf) you can register at ToyotaThinkGreen.com although I found a link on ToyotaLiveWeb.com, along with an online registration form on that site. Appears that both of these URL’s take you to the same site, so take your choice I guess.

Mahindra Scorpio Hybrid SUV May Be Available in 2008
Reuters recently reported that India’s Mahindra and Mihindra Limited has plans to bring a hybrid version of their award winning Scorpio sport utility vehicle to U.S. markets in 2008. For those who aren’t familiar with M & M or the Scorpio (also known as the Goa), there is some additional information available on wikipedia.org. Evidently, the Scorpio has been around since 2002 and is sold in several countries, including Russia, France, Spain, and Italy.
2008 Hybrid Toyota Highlanders Are Now Available!
I spoke with Jeff Farley, Sales Manager at Elmhurst Toyota (Chicago suburb) on 10/31/07, and he informed me that their first ’08 hybrid Highlander suv’s had just arrived. As we reported last month, most dealers have been out of the 2007 models for quite some time – so this is welcome news for auto dealerships and for all the people who have either been waiting, or holding out for the new hybrid model.
