Top 20 Hybrid SUV Searches – September 2007

Top Hybrid SUV SearchesThis month, we are rolling out a new feature on hybridsuv.com – reporting the top monthly searches for hybrid suvs, compiled from several websites, blogs, and online resources.  While most of the information is based on actual searches conducted during the current or previous month, some reporting sites include data over the past 90 day period.

During September, there was a surge in searches for many of the 2008 models that are scheduled to hit dealer showrooms over the next few months (including vehicles such as the hybrid GMC Yukon and hybrid Chevy Tahoe).  Even so, none of those searches or any phrases that included ”2008″ cracked the top 20.

Best Hybrid SUV Consumer Guide

Hybrid SUV PhotosWhile HybridSUV.com is striving to become a destination where people can learn about all hybrid suvs, we’ve got some catching up to do before we can compete with the best hybrid suv consumer guides and resources.  In my opinion, the top hybrid suv website in 2007 is HybridCars.com.  When I first became interested in more fuel efficient, environmentally friendly autos - I found this site to be very informative in terms of which hybrids were available now, new vehicles, and upcoming models.

2008 Saturn Vue Hybrid Review – The Green Line

2008-saturn-vue-suv.jpgSaturn released their first hybrid suv in late 2006 as a 2007 model year, but don’t expect to find many available on dealer lots.  Aptly named the “green line”, production shortages of the GM green machine have made them scarce over the past few months.  Now, the 2008 hybrid Saturn Vue is nearly ready for release – and surprisingly, Saturn isn’t providing much new infomation (link is below, for what it’s worth).

2008 Mercury Mariner Hybrid SUV Reviews

2008 Mercury Mariner SUV HybridThe hybrid version of the 2008 Mercury Mariner seems to have a lot going for it, and at the same time it’s stuck with several shortcomings.  A sibling of the hybrid Ford Escape and hybrid Mazda Tribute, the Mariner hybrid is the most expensive of the three – starting at around $26,000 for the two wheel drive model and about $27,500 for the all wheel drive version.  Loaded up, you should expect to shell out in the ball park of $32K.

2008 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Reviews

2008 Toyota Hybrid HighlanderToyota has been the undisputed industry leader in pioneering hybrid vehicle technology worldwide.  Their flagship hybrid has always been, and remains today – the Prius, which recently celebrated its 10th year in the U.S.  In June 2005, the Toyota Highlander Hybrid SUV was released for the 2006 model year, and during it’s first full year of U.S. sales, more than 31,000 were sold (second only to which other hybrid?…the Prius).

The 2008 Highlander hybrid is expected to arrive at dealerships in October (’07), and it can’t get here fast enough.  According to a spokesperson from Toyota, the 2007 model years are nearly gone from dealer inventories – causing total August sales of this green suv to be under 400 nationwide, compared to more than 2,500 during the same period in ’06.

2008 Ford Escape Hybrid Reviews

2008-ford-escape-hybrid.jpgThe 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid debuted in late November, 2006 at the LA Auto Show, and began arriving at dealerships across the country just a few months later. With an EPA estimated gas mileage of 34/30, this green sport utility vehicle remains one of the most fuel efficient vehicles in its class.

Ford has been building the Escape since 2004, and it was the first hybrid suv available in the U.S.  Considered a “full” hybrid vehicle, it is able to operate solely on electric power, gas power, or a combination of the two.  Like other hybrids, the Escape charges its batteries during the braking process – converting its momentum into stored electricity.
